Taciturn.

A mixed media portrait of the sculptor, Paloma Smith, using one of her photos as a reference.
I found this image to be quite a powerful one to work from; the graphic placement of the scissors against the tongue has a visual representation that women should be silent, and in our history right up to the present day women are punished for speaking out or having an opinion that goes beyond what is expected of them, culturally as well as privately within their intimate relationships. It was a thought provoking piece from start to finish and has inspired me to create more like it.
Created using watercolours mainly, with acrylics for highlights and dark pencils for small details on Windsor & Newton cold pressed watercolour paper.
