Thetis

I thoroughly enjoy reading myths that circle around ocean themes. It's fascinating, coupled with the little knowledge we have on such a vast area, it's easy to blur the lines of myth, fantasy and reality through stories and art. The centrepiece for this illustration as well as the inspiration, is a female figure from Greek mythology, named Thetis. Though she had many mythological roles, Thetis mainly appeared as a sea nymph, a goddess of water, or one of the 50 Nereids, whom are daughters of the ancient sea god Nereus. Created on cold pressed watercolour paper using Winsor & Newton watercolours and acrylics.
