The Gaze

Women have been accused and burned as witches all throughout history, and our curiosity and ideas about them penetrate our culture even now through TV and film. I was inspired to create this piece through my own fascination with the myth/fantasy rooted within people that believed there were witches, or that some people had the power of foresight.

I wanted my female not to be vulnerable, but to have this entire aura of power around her, that is protective and encompassing.

The illustration is created using watercolours, coloured pencil and acrylics on Bockingford 300gsm cold pressed paper.
