Ariel - A Fan Re-imagining

My next princess I immediately thought of after finishing Pocahontas was of course Ariel. I get such great childhood nostalgia watching the films and singing along to the songs; it's amazing how much you can remember after such a long time!

I used this opportunity to practise drawing a body in a difficult angle again, but this time having to imagine a tail without reference. I looked at various eels and snakes in helping me draw the direction of the fish scales, but other than that, the tail is pure fantasy. Created in my usual choice of mixed media with some gold accents using Windsor & Newton gold acrylic paint on Bockingford hot pressed watercolour paper.
