A Vintage Portrait Sketch.

A client requested for their grandparent's anniversary that I recreate a photograph of the couple in a black and white sketch. The photograph, like many vintage photos was a little worn and overexposed from the elements so their faces were blurred, but we were able to overcome this little problem and create a portrait that is true to their likeness.

I thoroughly enjoyed recreating the background foliage the most as I wanted to keep some of the 'blurryness' that is present in the photograph for depth of field in the artwork, and overall creates a composition that still feels vintage.

Created on Strathmore toned grey paper using a soft lead mechanical pencil, and Faber Castell polychromos for white hi-lights.
